Post-infarction Left Ventricular False Aneurysm

A 63-year-old female had left anterior descending artery intervention with drug-eluting stents. A post-infarction false aneurysm was diagnosed during ventriculography (Figure 1
). She underwent resection of the false aneurysm and removal of intracardiac thrombus (Figure 2
). Left ventricular pseudoaneurysms are unusual findings, generated by contained rupture of the infarcted ventricular free wall.

Figure 2. The false aneurysm was located in the diaphragmatic wall of the left ventricle (2A). It was resected and the defect repaired with a 0.5 mm Gore-Tex® Acuseal Cardiovascular Patch (WL Gore & Associates, Flagstaff, AR, USA). The remainder of the false aneurysm wall was used to cover the membrane (2B).
