A LOOK INTO THE REGION
The imposing Temple of Letters located in the imperial city of Hue, Vietnam adorns the cover of this issue of the journal. Constructed in 1808 on the left bank of the Song Huong or Perfume River, the Hue Temple of Letters is a valuable cultural and historic remains and a place of worship dedicated to the celebrated scholars of Confucianism. Founded by the Nguyen dynasty, the temple was renovated many times with sub-constructions undertaken in latter years. "Steles" or upright inscribed pillars erected in the yard of the main temple serve as monuments and bear the names of doctors who successfully completed the country's National Examinations. Renowned throughout the country both for the beauty of its women and for the sophistication of its cuisine, Hue lies at the heart of Vietnamese cultural traditions.
