Look Into The Region
Adorning our cover is Westlake, located in the eastern port city of Hangzhou, and one of the most famous scenic attractions in all of China. The city well-known for its literati was home to the Southern Song Dynasty capital, and in fact, numerous Chinese classics have Westlake as their setting. Interlinking bridges and pavilions named after the great Song Dynasty poet Shu Tung-po (called "Shu Ti") have alternating willows and plum blossoms that bloom in spring, attracting tourists from all over China. Seasonal changes at the lake seem to alter its mood, thought to be unusually seductive during rainy days. Poets and musicians in particular feast on Westlake's springtime beauty and everchanging scenes providing an enduring appeal for those who visit and often return. The famous dish of Westlake Duck also has its origins from this enchanting place.
