A Look Into The Region
Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences located in Puttaparthy, South India adorns the cover of this issue. Inaugurated in November 1991 by then Indian Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao, the majestically ornate 400-bed super-specialty hospital was designed and built to convey traditional Indian decoration, color, and form. Envisioned by India's charismatic and benevolent spiritual leader, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, this state-of-the-art facility offers advanced medical care of the highest standard, free-of-charge to all, even in the complex fields of cardiology and open-heart surgery. The edifice described as a "shimmering new building that looks like a cross between St. Peter's Cathederal in Rome and a Maharaja's palace" was amazingly operational in less then one year after conceived by Sri Sathya Sai Baba with the loyal support of his followers. It is estimated Sai Baba has more than 60 million devotees worldwide.
