A Look Into The Region

The "House on the rock" or Dar al Hadjar which served as the summer palace of the last Imam, Yahyah is located in the west Asian country of Yemen. Known locally as Al Yaman, Yemen with a predominately Arab population of almost 17 million borders on Saudi Arabia and Oman to the north and west (Red Sea on the east and the Gulf of Aden is to the south). In May of 1990, the Republic of Yemen was officially formed with the union of North (Yemen Arab Republic) and South (People's Democratic Republic of Yemen) and Sana'a was named as its capital. The country is part of continental Asia at the far southwestern sector and in ancient times was the crossroads of trade from the Orient and Africa to the Mediterranean.
